Rather than attempt to hide it, when talking about a Comic I'll tell you how much of a series I have actually read. How much exactly will be displayed in italics at the very top of the article.

If I've not read that much then I'll do an "initial impressions" write-up, which is not a full review of a series but covers my thoughts on what I've read so far. These may not be fair if the series improves or gets even worse over time.

Fushigi Yugi: The Mysterious Play

It’s a traditional tale of a school girl transported to a historical fantasy setting. You may be thinking InuYasha and you wouldn’t be too far off the mark, except that InuYasha is more aimed at male readers, where this is slightly more for female readers.

Instant Teen: Just Add Nuts

If that sounds a little bit silly, then let me assure you that Instant Teen is deliberately trying to be very silly. I mean, Tokyopop have even gone so far as to design the cover to look like a serial packet.

Magical x Miracle

Ah, Shojo Manga. If the lead heroine got captured in any other genre, there'd most likely be a lot of fighting as her friends attempted to rescue her. Here, all that happens is the reader get a long monologue on how she is feeling.

Sayonara, Zetsubou-sensei (Goodbye, Mr. Despair)

Basically it’s a kind of Japanese Satire. Not all of the jokes translate well to English, but a lot of the humour is quite multinational, so the translators obviously decided that this would be a good Manga to translate anyway even if not everyone will get all of the jokes.
